Severe Storms in Ohio & Texas Fire Weather Threat
A new cold front brings severe storms to the Midwest and Ohio Valley, plus critical fire weather for the Texas Panhandle ahead of festival weekend.

Hollywood Meets Midwest Storms, Plus Critical Fire Danger Down South
Get this, y'all. I was reading the news today and saw that a production crew is building a giant truck stop set in Middletown, Ohio for a new Adam Driver show. Hollywood is about to get a very authentic Midwest experience. That exact area is sitting right in the path of some nasty weather on Thursday.
A strong cold front is pushing through the region. The Storm Prediction Center has an Enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms covering parts of northern Illinois, Indiana, and western Ohio. The atmosphere is primed for discrete supercells late Thursday afternoon. We are looking at the potential for very large hail, severe wind gusts, and a few tornadoes. If you live near Fort Wayne or over towards western Ohio, you need to have a way to get warnings tomorrow evening.
The Fire Threat Down South
That same storm system is causing a completely different problem down in the Southern Plains. As the surface low develops, it is dragging dry, desert air across New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle.
We have a Critical fire weather risk in place for Thursday. This covers places like Albuquerque, Amarillo, and northwest Oklahoma. Winds will be howling out of the west at 15 to 25 mph. When you combine those downslope winds with the dry brush out there, any spark could turn into a fast-moving wildfire.

We already saw active wildfires pop up over the weekend in southern Oklahoma. The ground is incredibly receptive to fire right now.
Texas Festival Weekend
All of this dry heat matters because we are heading into a huge weekend for outdoor events. Texas is kicking off festival season in a big way. Dallas is hosting the Country, Blues & Red Dirt Festival, and Fort Worth has the big EATZ Food Festival.
The normal high for Dallas in late March is about 69 degrees. We have been running way hotter than that recently. The heat and dry air will be sticking around for folks setting up stages and food trucks.
If your weekend plans involve an outdoor concert or a long drive down I-35, drink plenty of water and watch where you park your vehicle. Hot exhaust pipes and dry grass do not mix.
