Perfect Spring Weather for the South and East Coast
High pressure is bringing flawless spring weather to the Southeast today, setting up a pristine weekend for the Mid-Atlantic and the Preakness Stakes.

Crisp Air in the South Today, Mid-Atlantic Perfection by Saturday
Y'all, if you are heading out to Truist Park tonight to watch the Cubs take on the Braves, you are in for an absolute treat. The weather across the Southeast and Ohio Valley today is as good as spring gets.
We are tracking a massive zone of high pressure that is sliding across the eastern half of the country. The Weather Prediction Center notes that a broad, strong upper ridge is setting up over the East, and it is doing an incredible job of suppressing cloud cover and keeping the rain away.

Thursday and Friday: The South Hits Peak Comfort
For Thursday, the absolute best weather in the country is parked over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, and Lexington are all scoring in our Perfect category. We are looking at afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s with dewpoints dropping all the way down into the 40s. That is the kind of crisp, dry air that makes a morning walk or an evening at the ballpark feel effortless.
By Friday, that core of Perfect weather shifts slightly east into the Southern Appalachians and the Carolinas. Cities like Asheville, Knoxville, and Augusta will see brilliant blue skies and highs hovering right around 76 degrees.
The only minor caveat for the South right now is the sun itself. The UV index is hovering around 8 across these regions. Even though the air feels cool and comfortable, you will absolutely need sunscreen if you are spending the afternoon outside.
The Weekend: The East Coast Scores Big
As we head into Saturday, that ridge of high pressure parks itself right over the Eastern Seaboard. This is fantastic news for the I-95 corridor.

If you are traveling to Laurel, Maryland for the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, you could not ask for a better setup. The Southern Northeast and Mid-Atlantic coast are hitting our Perfect and Beautiful categories. New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. are looking at flawless atmospheric moisture levels, zero percent rain chances, and highly comfortable highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
A Quick Note on the Plains
We have to give a quick shoutout to the Kansas City metro area. Cities like Independence, Blue Springs, and Overland Park have been riding an incredible eight-day streak of Nice weather.
However, that streak is facing a tough test today. While temperatures in the Plains remain very comfortable in the 70s, a new system is introducing gusty winds and a severe weather threat to the region. If you are in the central United States, enjoy the mild temperatures, but keep an eye on the radar and be prepared for those sustained winds to pick up noticeably this afternoon.
