Memorial Day Perfection in the Great Lakes and a 15-Day California Streak

Happy Memorial Day, y'all. If you are reading this from the Southeast, you probably have the grill tucked safely under the patio awning. The heavy rain down there just will not quit today. But if you are spending the holiday in the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, or out West, the atmosphere is serving up an absolute treat.

Here is a look at exactly where the weather is working in your favor to start the week. You can always check your local forecast on our Nice Weather outlook page.

The Great Lakes Masterclass

RHY Nice Weather Outlook Day 1

A broad dome of high pressure is sitting right over the central Great Lakes and Ohio Valley today. Because of this, we are seeing a massive zone of "Perfect" weather. Cities like Lansing and Kalamazoo, Michigan, along with Olathe, Kansas, are scoring a stellar 92.0 out of 100 on our nice weather index.

If you are heading out to the Movement Music Festival in Detroit or just hanging out in the backyard, you are looking at highs around 80 degrees, very low humidity, and a near-zero chance of rain. The air is going to feel incredibly comfortable. Just keep in mind that the UV index is hovering around 7.7, so you will definitely need the sunscreen if you are sitting in the bleachers or standing in festival lines today.

The Northeast Gets Its Turn on Tuesday

RHY Nice Weather Outlook Day 2

As we head back to work on Tuesday, the best weather shifts slightly east into the central Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Syracuse, Albany, and Utica, New York, are all jumping to the top of the charts with "Beautiful" ratings. An exceptionally dry airmass is moving in, dropping dewpoints into the upper 50s. High temperatures will top out in the low to mid-70s. It will be a little breezy, with occasional gusts up to 23 mph, but the crisp air will make for an excellent afternoon to open the windows and air out the house.

Southern California's Ridiculous Streak

We also have to talk about the West Coast. If you live in Southern California, you might be taking this weather for granted.

Cities like Lancaster, Palmdale, and Azusa are currently riding an impressive 15-day streak of "Nice" weather conditions or better. Looking at the extended forecast, the Weather Prediction Center notes that a highly amplified ridge is going to build across the western United States later this week. This setup will keep the skies clear and the humidity low for days on end.

Places like Los Angeles, San Diego, and Oxnard are forecast to lock in "Beautiful" days almost every single day from Thursday straight through the weekend. The Climate Prediction Center is watching a warming trend that could bring extreme heat to the Central Valley by early June, so get outside and enjoy this comfortable window while it lasts.

Have a safe and happy holiday, and keep an eye on the Nice Weather outlook page as you plan the rest of your week.
