Perfect Racing Weather in Detroit and a 21-Day California Streak

Hey y'all. It has been a rough week for severe weather in the Central Plains and flooding down south. But if you are looking at the northern half of the country today, the atmosphere is giving us a much-needed break.

A massive area of high pressure is bringing crisp, dry air to the Great Lakes, the Northeast, and the Pacific Northwest. If you want to see exactly where your town lands, you can check out the full interactive map on our Nice Weather outlook page.

Grandstands and Ballparks

Right now, Detroit is sitting in our "Perfect" category with a score of 82.0. If you are heading out to the Grand Prix of Detroit today, you could not ask for better conditions. We are talking high temperatures in the low 70s, dewpoints in the mid-40s, and essentially one percent cloud cover. It will be incredibly comfortable by the water.

The same goes for Pennsylvania. Fans heading to the Pirates game in Pittsburgh this afternoon will be treated to a Perfect score of 92.0, and Philadelphia is currently sitting at the absolute number one spot in the country for Sunday.

The one caveat keeping these spots from reaching our absolute highest "Pristine" tier is the sun. The UV index is hovering around 7.5 across the Northeast and Great Lakes today. It will feel cool and breezy, but you will still get a sunburn if you forget the sunscreen in the bleachers.

Monday in the Pacific Northwest

As we head into the workweek, the Pacific Northwest takes the crown.

For Monday, Portland, Oregon, jumps to the top of the list with a score of 92.0. Tacoma and Seattle are right behind it. A warming trend is pushing inland highs into the 70s, but the air remains extremely dry and comfortable with dewpoints near 45 degrees. If you have a chance to take an extended lunch break or hit a trailhead tomorrow afternoon, take advantage of it.

The California Streak Continues

We also have to give a shoutout to the West Coast for sheer consistency. While the central US deals with a stalled cold front and increasing rain chances later this week, southern California remains an absolute lock for outdoor plans.

In fact, cities like Lancaster, Palmdale, and Azusa just hit a 21-day streak of landing in our Nice category or better. If you live in these areas, you have had three solid weeks of reliable patio weather.

Enjoy the sunshine today, stay safe if you are near those stormy regions down south, and have a great Sunday!
