A Perfect Stretch of Air Moves East Just in Time for the Belmont Stakes

Y'all, if you are sitting anywhere near the Great Lakes or Ohio Valley this morning, I hope you have the windows open. We are tracking a sprawling Canadian high-pressure system that is delivering some of the crispest, most comfortable air we have seen in a while.

While folks out in the Dakotas and West Texas are dealing with severe storms and heavy rain today, a huge chunk of the eastern half of the country is getting a free pass to spend the week outside. We are talking zero humidity, light breezes, and temperatures that feel like they belong in a travel brochure.

If you want to see exactly how your hometown scores this week, you can type your zip code into our Nice Weather outlook page.

RHY Nice Weather Outlook Day 1

Tuesday: Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Comfort

Today is an absolute gem for the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Detroit, Columbus, and Milwaukee are all sitting in our "Perfect" category. Average highs across this zone are peaking around 71 degrees, and dewpoints are hovering in the mid-40s. That means the air is exceptionally dry. You will not break a sweat walking to the mailbox or picking the kids up from school.

If you are heading out to Great American Ball Park tonight to watch the Kansas City Royals take on the Cincinnati Reds, you are in for a treat. You will not need to wipe humidity off your brow, though a light jacket might be handy by the late innings as temperatures drop into the 50s.

The only tiny catch today is the sun. The UV index is running above 7 in these areas. It might feel cool and breezy, but you can still get a sunburn pretty quickly.

Wednesday: The Northeast Gets a Turn

By Wednesday, this bubble of fantastic weather slides east, setting up shop right over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

This timing could not be better for the start of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival up in Saratoga Springs, New York. If you are heading to the track on Wednesday, expect high temperatures right around 74 degrees and mostly blue skies. Buffalo, Syracuse, and Worcester are all scoring in the 90s on our 100-point scale today, making it a great time to get some yard work done before the weekend.

Thursday: CMA Fest Kicks Off

Down south, the comfortable air is reaching deep into Tennessee. Nashville actually ranks as our number one city for Wednesday, and the great weather holds on nicely for Thursday.

The CMA Fest gets going on Thursday, June 4. Usually, outdoor festivals in the South in June mean fighting through thick, sticky heat. Not this year. The forecast for Day 3 in Nashville calls for a "Beautiful" rating. Highs will bump up slightly to around 80 degrees, but the moisture return is going to be very slow. Dewpoints will stay in the low 50s, which is incredibly pleasant for Tennessee this time of year. Just remember to pack the sunscreen, as the UV index will be bumping up over 8.

A Quick West Coast Shoutout

We also have to give a nod to Southern California. Places like Lancaster and Palmdale are quietly riding a 23-day streak of "Nice" weather. They are avoiding the extreme heat that sometimes builds up in the valleys this time of year, coasting along with comfortable afternoons and cool mornings.

Enjoy the quiet air if you have it, y'all. Keep an eye on the sky if you are out in the Plains, and have a great week outside.
