West Coast Dominates the Nice Weather Forecast for June 10
The Pacific Northwest and California are enjoying a beautiful stretch of dry, comfortable weather, perfectly timed for the World Cup in Los Angeles.

The West Coast Wins The Week While The Midwest Dodges Storms
Y'all, the national weather map is basically split right down the middle this week. A persistent upper-level trough is digging into the central United States, bringing daily rounds of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain to the Plains and Midwest. But if you live west of the Rockies, you are sitting under a protective ridge of high pressure that is serving up some of the best outdoor weather in the country.
Whether you are planning a trailhead hike in Oregon or heading to a soccer match in Southern California, the western half of the country is dominating our Nice Weather outlook page this week.
A Beautiful Stretch for the Pacific Northwest

The absolute highest scores on our charts for Wednesday and Thursday are concentrated in the Pacific Northwest. A dry, stable airmass has settled over the region, dropping dewpoints into the crisp mid-40s.
If you are in places like Eugene, Bend, or Medford, Oregon, you are looking at "Beautiful" conditions today. Highs will hover in the highly comfortable upper 60s to low 70s. By Thursday, that phenomenal weather expands to include Seattle, Portland, and Spokane. We are talking about near-zero precipitation chances and mostly cloud-free skies. It is flawless patio breakfast weather.
Just a quick heads up if you are taking advantage of the sunshine: the UV index is running high around 8.0, so you will need sunscreen if you are out for prolonged periods. Also, if you are recreating near water, remember that rivers and streams are still running dangerously cold from snowmelt this time of year.
Flawless Timing for the World Cup in LA
Further south, California is enjoying its own exceptional streak. Cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose are consistently landing in the "Nice" category straight through the weekend.
This is fantastic news for soccer fans. The FIFA World Cup U.S. opening match kicks off in Inglewood on Friday, and the weather could not be better for tailgating and navigating the festival lines. The typical "June Gloom" marine layer is clearing out quickly, leaving abundant sunshine and very comfortable highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Rough Weather for Midwestern Events
While the West Coast enjoys the sunshine, the central and eastern states are dealing with a much more volatile pattern.
If you have outdoor plans in the Midwest, like the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, or if you are packing for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival down in Tennessee, you need to stay weather-aware. A potent cold front and a very moist airmass are triggering severe thunderstorms across the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes.
These areas are strictly capped at "Decent" or "Fair" on our nice weather scale because of the severe weather threats, which include damaging wind gusts over 75 mph and heavy downpours. The humidity is also noticeable, with dewpoints climbing into the 70s ahead of the front. Make sure you have a reliable way to get weather warnings and a solid backup plan if you are spending time outside east of the Rockies this week.
