A 'Perfect' Monday in the Ohio Valley Before the Pacific Northwest Steals the Show

After a weekend of intense severe weather and with a major tropical flood threat currently building along the Texas Gulf Coast, you might assume the whole weather map is a mess today. But thanks to a cold front dragging refreshing Canadian air southward, a massive chunk of the country is waking up to some of the most comfortable June weather we have seen all year.

Looking at the data for Monday, a rare "Perfect" zone has set up shop right over the Central High Plains and into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.

RHY Nice Weather Outlook Day 1

Cities like Columbus, Nashville, Kansas City, and Lexington are maxing out our comfort scale today. The muggy summer air has been scoured out, leaving dewpoints in the highly refreshing 40s and 50s. High temperatures will generally peak in the mid-70s to low 80s, which is a solid 5 to 10 degrees below normal for mid-June.

If you are heading to Great American Ball Park tonight to watch the Mets take on the Reds in Cincinnati, you could not ask for better baseball weather. Just keep in mind that despite the cooler air, the mid-June sun angle is high. UV indices are hovering near 8 across the region, so you will still need a hat and sunscreen if you are spending the afternoon on a patio or getting yard work done.

The Midweek Shift to the Pacific Northwest

By Tuesday and Wednesday, the East Coast and Midwest will start dealing with returning humidity, cloud cover, and a renewed severe weather threat. But out West, the Pacific Northwest is about to take the crown.

On Wednesday, Seattle, Portland, and Spokane all hit the "Beautiful" and "Perfect" categories. We are talking about highs in the mid-70s, dewpoints in the crisp mid-40s, and nearly uninterrupted sunshine. It is an ideal window for hiking the Cascades, taking a long bike ride, or just opening the windows to air out the house.

Planning for the Late Week

As we look toward Thursday and the weekend, the Weather Prediction Center notes that a persistent trough of low pressure will keep the eastern half of the country pretty unsettled. If you are heading to Southampton, New York, for the U.S. Open Golf Championship on Thursday, be prepared for some scattered showers and potentially a few strong storms in the broader region. The East Coast will mostly be stuck in our "Fair" and "Decent" tiers due to the clouds and rain chances.

However, the western half of the country stays incredibly stable. If you are packing your camping gear for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado on Thursday, you are landing right in a solid "Nice" zone with comfortable highs near 79 degrees and very low rain chances.
