Central Minnesota scores a rare Perfect-tier day while California's Central Valley and Bay Area quietly extend a 90-day Nice weather streak. Here's where to plan around it.

Good Sunday morning, y'all. Two different kinds of nice weather stories are happening at once today, and they're worth separating.
One is loud but brief: a genuine Perfect score, the top of our five-tier scale, sitting over a small patch of central Minnesota today only. The other is quiet but long-running: a 90-day streak of Nice-or-better days across California's Central Valley and inner Bay Area that's been humming along since mid-June without anybody making a fuss about it. Let's take them in order.
Today's Ceiling: St. Cloud, Willmar, Bemidji, Brainerd, Fergus Falls
Building high pressure over the Upper Midwest has produced the day's only Perfect-tier air, and it's centered on St. Cloud, Willmar, Bemidji, Brainerd, and Fergus Falls, Minnesota. St. Cloud is scoring 97.8, Fergus Falls 98.5. Highs land near 65°F with lows around 45°F, dewpoints near 44°F, wind a light 9 mph, and only a 2 percent chance of rain under 13 percent cloud cover. AQI is a clean 33, with AirNow readings in the low 20s. This is about as close to flawless early-fall air as the atmosphere offers: no rain, no wind to speak of, no humidity, no smoke.
Just south of that pocket, Fargo, Bloomington, Bismarck, Minot, and Hibbing sit one notch down at Beautiful, scoring in the low 90s. Bismarck is the outlier of that group at 72.0, held back by 13 mph sustained wind, which shows how one breezier station can drag a city out of the top tier even while its neighbors sail through.
If your Sunday plans include football, know where you're standing. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal severe risk stretched from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast today, and that band runs right through Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, meaning the Bengals-Buccaneers and Falcons-Steelers games sit closer to isolated storm risk than to anything Nice-tier. Out west, tonight's Cardinals-Chargers game in Inglewood falls inside a broad Nice zone (Los Angeles scores 78.3), though LA's air quality is worth a glance, with effective AQI readings creeping into the 60s to 80s from a mix of sea breeze and lingering haze.
Monday and Tuesday: The Ceiling Shifts East and West
Monday's best air moves to a corridor stretching from the interior Pacific Northwest into the Ohio Valley. Columbus, Portland, Bend, Medford, Yakima, Wenatchee, and Lima all land in the low 90s, riding dry high pressure behind a departing front. Highs run around 70-72°F, dewpoints near 47-50°F, wind a gentle 8-9 mph. It's genuinely close to Perfect on the raw numbers, but Day 2's forecast-day rule caps it at Beautiful anyway, since confidence at that range doesn't support going higher.
Tuesday, the pattern splits into a patchwork: Pittsburgh, Harrisonburg, Morgantown, and Eugene and Medford in Oregon all hit Beautiful, anchored by near-zero rain chances and light 7-8 mph winds. Pittsburgh runs warmer and a touch more humid (near 79°F, dewpoints in the low 60s) while the Appalachian and Pacific Northwest members skew cooler and drier. Either way, it's a genuinely comfortable window for hiking, ballgames, or an outdoor lunch.
The Real Story: California's Quiet 90-Day Streak
Here's the part that doesn't show up in a single day's map. Sacramento, Stockton, Elk Grove, Roseville, Vallejo, Fairfield, Antioch, Vacaville, Napa, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Tracy, Manteca, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Davis, Arden-Arcade, Citrus Heights, and Pittsburg have all logged a live Nice-or-better streak of 90 straight days, the longest active run in our dataset, stretching back to mid-June.
That's not the same as saying every one of those 90 days has been gorgeous. Sacramento's own score has dipped as low as 50 on a few days this coming week, still clearing the Nice bar but not by much, and afternoon highs in the Central Valley have flirted with the mid-90s on Days 4 and 5 of this outlook. There's also a fire-weather angle worth flagging: the Storm Prediction Center has an Elevated fire weather designation over the Sacramento Valley foothills today and tomorrow, driven by southwest winds and afternoon relative humidity dropping into the 15-20 percent range. And Sacramento's own AQI has run in the high 50s to low 60s this week thanks to light surface smoke drifting down from Northern California fire activity. None of that breaks the Nice-tier streak on paper, but it's the kind of caveat worth knowing before you plan an all-day outdoor event there.
Zoom out to the full week and the same region shows up again at the top of our rankings. Yreka, Laytonville, Willits, Brooktrails, and Montague, up in the far northern reaches of California, post the best mean scores of any cities in the country this week, averaging 83 across all seven days with every single day clearing Nice. Their best day, Monday, actually touches Beautiful and even Perfect-tier readings in spots. Palm Springs isn't far behind, averaging 82.5 for the week with a Beautiful day on Day 1.
How to Use This Week
If you want the single best day anywhere in the country, that's today, and it's a narrow window: central Minnesota, roughly a two-hour radius around St. Cloud. If you want a genuinely great fall day and don't mind a short flight or drive, Monday's Pacific Northwest-to-Ohio Valley stripe is your best bet, and Tuesday's Appalachian and interior Northwest patchwork is close behind. But if you're building a longer trip or just want dependable outdoor weather without obsessing over the daily map, California's Central Valley and inner Bay Area corridor is the safer long-term bet, so long as you keep an eye on afternoon heat and any smoke advisories.
