Nice Weather Outlook: Beautiful Stretch Through Friday, Gray Halloween
A Beautiful-tier run hits the Ohio Valley and Southeast through Friday for Breeders' Cup weekend, then clouds cap Halloween before the Desert Southwest turns nice.

Beautiful Weather Bookends Breeders' Cup Weekend, Then Halloween Goes Gray
Today and tomorrow are the kind of stretch you want to actually use. A dry, high-pressure-driven pattern has settled in from the central Great Lakes down through the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, and it's good enough to land in Beautiful territory in a bunch of places two days running. Then Halloween itself turns gray on paper, and by early next week the baton passes out west.
Today and Friday: The Beautiful Corridor Holds
Thursday's best weather sits in a patchwork running from southeastern Pennsylvania through Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, eastern North Carolina, and southern New England. Sioux Falls, Greenville, and Virginia Beach are all posting scores of 92, solidly Beautiful, with dry air, light winds, and dewpoints in the low 40s to low 50s doing the work. Philadelphia comes in a touch softer at 81.4, still Beautiful, with a high near 67 and that crisp, low-humidity fall feel.
The only thing keeping this corridor from climbing into Perfect is air quality, not the weather itself. Every other ingredient, sky, wind, temperature, dewpoint, clears the bar with room to spare, but the effective air quality index sits just above the strict ceiling Perfect demands. It is a clean day, just not scrub-the-sky clean.

Friday hands the baton to central Ohio, Kentucky, and the Georgia and Carolina Piedmont, and this is where the Breeders' Cup crowd in Lexington gets lucky. Lexington-Fayette scores a 92, right alongside Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Wilmington, and Macon. Highs run from the lower 60s in post-frontal Ohio up into the upper 70s and low 80s across Georgia and the Carolinas, with dewpoints in the 50s keeping things comfortable rather than sticky. Light 8 mph winds and barely any cloud cover round it out. Same story as Thursday: air quality, not sky or wind, is the only thing standing between this zone and the top category.
The Quiet MVP of the Week: Virginia's Northern Neck
Buried in the weekly rankings is a genuinely fun find. Towns like Mathews, Deltaville, Tappahannock, Saluda, Warsaw, Kilmarnock, Heathsville, and Colonial Beach, scattered across Virginia's Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula along the Chesapeake Bay, are hitting Nice or better on six of the seven days in this outlook, peaking at 92 today. No single day there is the national headline, but strung together, it is one of the most consistently pleasant seven-day stretches anywhere in the country. If you have been putting off a bay-side weekend, this is the corner of the map quietly earning it.
Halloween Goes Gray, But It Stays Dry
Saturday is a letdown on paper. A thick cloud deck, running 73 to 100 percent coverage, spreads from the central Plains through the Midwest and into the Northeast and Southeast, which caps the entire country at Fair at best. Philadelphia, the Bronx, Columbus, Washington, Boston, and Louisville all land right at 72. The good news for trick-or-treaters: rain chances stay low almost everywhere in that Fair zone, mostly under 5 percent. It is a dry, mild, overcast Halloween rather than a washed-out one. Denver and spots in the central Plains fare worse, with a heavier deck and a stray storm signal keeping a smaller zone capped even lower.
Marathon Morning Flattens, Then the Southwest Takes Over
Saturday's clouds linger into Sunday behind a departing front, and no zone anywhere reaches Nice for New York City Marathon morning. Manhattan sits at 72, Fair, mild but unremarkable. The real story is what happens next: high pressure builds in behind that front and opens up a Nice-tier window across central California by Sunday, then migrates into the Desert Southwest by Monday as an energetic Pacific trough digs into the West and consolidates into a Plains low.
Monday is the best day of the extended outlook. Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, San Diego, and Riverside all score 82, with sky cover basically at zero and highs in the low 70s. Tuesday holds a similar pattern as the warm, dry air extends east toward Laredo and the southern High Plains.

A couple of things worth flagging if you're planning around that Southwest window: UV runs moderate to high there, into the 5s, so sun protection still matters in November, and the same trough that clears the Southwest is dropping gusts above 35 mph across a growing slice of the central Plains and Midwest as it organizes into a surface low, so that part of the country is trading clouds for wind rather than getting a clean trade-up.
Streaks Worth Knowing About
Ashland, Talent, and Phoenix, Oregon are sitting on live streaks of 55 to 56 straight days at Fair or better, which is a wild number for late October. Down in southwest Louisiana, Lake Charles, Sulphur, Crowley, and a cluster of nearby towns are 25 days deep into their own streak, a nice quiet stretch for a region that spent much of this hurricane season on alert.
