Wednesday's Perfect Weather Window: South-Central Texas Forecast

South-central Texas hits a true Perfect score Wednesday while Tuesday's Beautiful weather splits between the Desert Southwest and Carolina Piedmont. Here's the plan.

Wednesday Is the One: South-Central Texas Hits a Genuine Perfect Score

If you only have bandwidth to plan one outdoor day this week, make it Wednesday, and make it south-central Texas. Everything else on the map this week is good. Wednesday near Victoria, Beeville, Gonzales, La Grange, and Karnes City is something else entirely: a 99.0 composite score, with dewpoint, precipitation, and heat stress sub-scores all effectively maxed out. That is a legitimate Perfect day, the best this outlook shows all week, and it is worth building a plan around.

Today First: Two Beautiful Pockets, Nothing Touching Each Other

Before we get to Wednesday, today (Tuesday, November 3) still has real value if you're near the right spot. High pressure has carved out two disconnected zones of Beautiful weather: the low-elevation Desert Southwest (El Paso, Tucson, Yuma, Las Cruces, Sierra Vista, El Centro) and the Carolina Piedmont (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Lynchburg, Danville). Highs run around 67°F with lows near 46°F, dewpoints near 46°F, cloud cover averaging just 8%, and winds light at around 9 mph. AQI sits in the low 40s, UV runs a moderate 5.3, so sunscreen and a hat are still worth it if you're out past midday.

If you're in San Antonio today for the UIL State Marching Band contest, conditions should be comfortable for standing around a stadium lot for a few hours, even if San Antonio itself isn't quite in the day's top-tier zone. Just know the real upgrade is one day away.

One caveat worth repeating from recent days: the Desert Southwest is dry and clear right now, but it's also the same region that saw record river stages and washed-out roads just days ago. Dry skies don't mean dry ground everywhere, so washes, low-water crossings, and recently flooded creek bottoms in Arizona and New Mexico are still worth avoiding on a hike.

Wednesday: The Golden Crescent Gets a Perfect Score

A cold front moving through today scours the humidity out of south-central Texas, and what's left behind on Wednesday is about as clean as this scoring system gets. Victoria, Beeville, Gonzales, La Grange, and Karnes City post a zone-average score of 99.0, with highs near 74 to 75°F, lows around 56°F, dewpoints near 57°F (comfortable, not muggy), 0% rain chance, just 8% cloud cover, and light 9 mph winds. AQI runs in the mid-30s. This is patio-breakfast weather, Friday-night-lights weather, the kind of stretch where you want the windows down on the drive between towns.

The ring around that zone is nearly as good. Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Tucson, Little Rock, Killeen, and Waco all land at Beautiful with scores of 92.0, and Phoenix and Las Vegas aren't far behind in the low 80s. The broader southern High Plains and Desert Southwest pick up Nice conditions, with highs around 65 to 69°F and dewpoints near 50°F. UV climbs slightly to around 5.6 in the warmest spots, so midday sun protection still matters, but the air quality and comfort numbers are about as good as November gets in this part of the country.

After Wednesday: A Front Slides East, the Ceiling Drops to Nice

Thursday into Friday, a broad, slow-moving system drapes from the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys toward the Atlantic Seaboard, and that keeps cloud cover and shower chances as the main drag on scores across the central and eastern US. A narrow corridor from the southern Plains into the Mid-South holds onto Nice conditions through the weekend (Memphis, Nashville, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Los Angeles all land at 82.0 on multiple days), and the Desert Southwest and inland California keep a similar Nice-to-Beautiful streak going. By the forecast-day rules, nothing beyond Wednesday is allowed to climb past Nice regardless of how clean the numbers look, so treat Days 4 through 7 as solid-but-capped rather than disappointing.

One more thread worth flagging: a cluster of towns around southwestern Arizona, including Salome, Bouse, and Wenden, along with Tucson and its suburbs, are stringing together Nice-or-better weather on all seven days this outlook covers, with a mean score of 82 to 83. That's not the flashiest storyline of the week, but if you're weighing a desert trip against a coastal one, that part of Arizona is about as safe a bet as this outlook offers right now. Separately, a run of South Carolina towns around Georgetown, Conway, and North Charleston are sitting on a 24-day streak of Nice-or-better weather, a quieter reminder that good weather doesn't always make headlines.

The Nearby Caveats

This isn't a clean national map. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal severe risk posted today from the Sabine River Valley into the lower and mid Mississippi Valley, and WPC has a Slight excessive rainfall risk over roughly the same corridor, stretching into the Tennessee Valley through Wednesday. Southeast Florida is still under a Flood Watch after this week's flash flood emergency in Brevard and Indian River counties. None of that overlaps the Texas Perfect zone directly, but if your travel plans route through Memphis, Little Rock, or Shreveport, keep half an eye on the sky.
