Florida Rain & Texas Fire Weather: Spring Forecast
A stalled front threatens the Tampa Bay Wine and Food Festival with heavy rain, while critical fire weather returns to the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles.

Spring Festivals Meet Stalled Fronts: What to Expect This Week
Get this, y'all. Spring festival season is officially here. The Tampa Bay Wine and Food Festival kicks off this Tuesday. Folks have been planning their menus and outdoor setups for months. But a stalled cold front is about to crash the party.
We are looking at a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall across central and eastern Florida for Monday and Tuesday. The Weather Prediction Center shows the tail end of a cold front just dragging its feet over the state. This setup will act like a sponge, pulling in moist tropical air. We could see rainfall rates of half an inch to over three inches per hour.
Tampa usually enjoys beautiful highs right around 82 degrees in early April. This week, you will need a sturdy umbrella instead of sunglasses. If you are heading out to the festival or just running errands, expect some flooded roads and sudden downpours.

Bone Dry in the Panhandles
Now, look over at the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. It is a completely different story. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a Critical Fire Weather area for Monday.
A surface low is strengthening over eastern Colorado. That will pull dry, southwest winds across the region at 20 to 25 mph. The air out there is bone dry. Any spark will spread incredibly fast. We are talking about areas near Childress and Hollis that just saw 60 to 70 mph wind gusts a few days ago. The ground is parched, and the wind is ramping right back up.

Carolinas Wind Threat
We also have a Marginal Risk of severe storms for the eastern Carolinas tonight. A line of pre-frontal storms is moving through right now. The main threat is isolated damaging winds before the system pushes offshore early this evening. If you live near Wilmington or Virginia Beach, secure your trash cans and patio furniture.
Spring weather demands a solid backup plan. Keep your radar app handy if you are heading out to a food festival, and absolutely hold off on any outdoor burning if you live in the Plains.
